Monochrome Monday 7 – Between Jobs
Taken from the Yosemite Valley Stables just before my horseback ride, the first since I was a Bear Cub Scout many years ago.
Just before I mounted, my horse Gunsmoke would give this tree leaner a new job.
Gunsmoke was apparently a movie horse early in his career. He appeared in the 1994 movie Maverick alongside co-stars Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster, two stars who as far as I know have the good fortune to not be giving rides to tourists in a national park and pooping in stables.

An excellent picture, love the rich contrast.
Don’t forget James Garner was in the remake. Never missed an original episode.
Now that is a composition that I could only dream of – between the jobs
Excellent!
Lovely photo! I especially love the (tv within the tv) small image of the horses in the background…very intriguing!
i love the bark of that tree. i have so much to learn from monochrome maniacs in terms of hotography
Beautiful b&w, nicely composed, nicely contrasted. And I too love the stable shot in the background – enlarged the photo to see what was going on back there.
It’s unique, Very good.
Well done!
Really beautiful sunlight and nice contrasts.
This is a wonderful Monochrome Monday photo. I really like the texture of the bark of the tree. The commentary is pretty neat, too!
love it. i recently went horseback riding a couple months ago also!! love the contrast in black and white.
The shovel says it all. Small patch of animals, BIG pile of mess! Love the contract, use of positive and negative space, movement and stillness. Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous!

Very nicely composed, and great light and shadow. A terrific choice for monochrome.
I just love this picture. Very nice;-)
Wonderful how you are able to turn the mundane into art – beautiful mix of light and dark, things seen and half seen (and some things thankfully not seen!)
This is simply stunningly beautiful.
WOW oh Wow! This is fabulous!! LOVE IT!
The lighting in this is so dramatic! I have no idea why, but suddenly I thought of Shakespeare’s play “Macbeth”.
Nicely done … I hope someone is sitting the shade relaxing as well
Nice shot, very good in B&W
Amazing lighting…and wonderful capture!
Wonderful photograph! I love how the sun through the tree draws your eye to the shovel.
Wishing you a scent-sational Monochrome Week.

Awesome contrast, and the window/door in the background is the perfect accent. Bravo!
I love it! So much too see, and the textures are marvellous.
Thats a great shot!
Fabulous subject and composition – I love the peek into the stables, almost an aside but adding deliciously to the story. Beautiful treatment, too. Very nice!
Perfect composition and so well seen in b/w. Your comments are hilarious. They certainly add another “dimension” to the photo.
